THE COVERS: THE WORD ALIVE “MERCY”
As most of you likely already know, the latest edition of the Punk Goes… series, Punk Goes Pop 5, was released this week. The series has gained quite the following, obviously, due to this being the fifth installment. We here at The Scene As We Know It have mixed feeling at best about the release. It had its fair share of renditions that grabbed at your ear, forcing you to return for more listening, but it also had plenty of undesirables.
One track in particular that really stood out from the rest to us was The Word Alive‘s cover of Kanye West’s song, “Mercy.” The track is the heaviest on the release and features some of the best material the band has ever produced. From a flawless performance from 19 year old drummer, Luke Holland, to a pernicious vocal delivery from frontman, Tyler “Telle” Smith, “Mercy,” is a definite stand out track on PGP5, and is the reason it is this weeks feature track on The Covers.
